Ms. Kathryn
As well as holding a state license as a childcare provider, I am an experienced and certified (Illinois teaching
certificate, Type 04, infants through third grade) teacher. I taught in the classoom at the preschool, kindergarten
and first grade levels. I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood
Education through the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and graduate work in special education through the University of
Wisconsin in Milwaukee. I am the grateful mother of two fine young people, a
daughter who is 17 and a son who is 20. I lead a local family childcare
association, am an active member of both the Illinis state association of family childcare providers (IAFCC) and the national
association (NAFCC), and a mentor for new family childcare providers as a member of the Mentors Guild through CHASI.
I spend many hours each year in continuing education. I am also at the otherside of the equation a few times a year as
well. I present workshops at area conferences and association meetings.

My children Paul and Brittany were five and eight years old when I began my family childcare
business in 1995. Without their willingness to cooperate and be a part of this venture, I would not have succeeded. Through
the years they have been and remain favorite people in the lives of the children that come to our home. Now that they
are teenagers, they aren't here as much as they have been the past. When they are, they can often be found reading to
a child or playing games with the children. Current favorites are the marble racer with Paul or DDR with Brittany.
Brittany plays saxophone for an encouraging crowd and enjoys cooking with the children. She is an honor student
enrolled at the World Language and International Studies Academy at Streamwood High School. Paul is an Eagle Scout and
currently enrolled at Beloit College in Wisconsin. Both kids provide excellent models of what it is to be a young adult.
